Telus offering savings to Burns Lake customers because of tragedy

Telus is offering its local customers a 50 per cent reduction in their Telus home phone and internet bills for three months.

Telus are doing their part to help all residents of Burns Lake cope with the economic after effects of the Babine Forest Products explosion and fire on Jan. 20, 2012.

According to Chris Jensen, Telus general manager interior North, the company is offering its residential and small business customers a 50 per cent reduction in their Telus home phone and internet bills for three months.

For Telus customers that only have mobility services in the Burns Lake area Jensen said they too will receive 50 per cent off their cell phone bill for three months.

He said locals will be eligible for one offer or the other, but not both. If customers have both a home phone and cell phone the offer will automatically be applied to their home phone bill.

Jensen said he expects customers will see the savings applied to Telus bills that arrive in late February or early March 2012.

The savings will be automatically applied to bills and no application is necessary.

"There is a large number of customers in the area and we are already beginning to work on applying the credits," he said adding that Telus is estimating the offer will save locals $200,000 or more over three months.

Jensen said the offer is being applied to outlying areas including; Broman Lake, Colleymount, Donald's Landing, Endako, Francois Lake, Noralee, Palling, Rose Lake, Sheraton, Tintagel, Topley and Wet'suwet'en and other areas in between.

"There is about 15 areas in total," he said.

Jensen said the company will also be donating $5,000 to a local relief fund but said any specific details about the donation and the recipient are still being worked out.
