There will be a special musical treat for this year’s centennial celebrations.

Gordie Shanks was commissioned to write a song for the BC Centennial a few years back. With Burns Lake turning 100 this year, he thought he would remake it with new lyrics and some fantastic local musicians. It is an amazing display of Burns Lake talent and a lot of community pride.

If you have not yet heard this song you will be sure to hear it throughout the weekend festivities. If you would like to have a listen now, you can head to the Visit Burns Lake Facebook page or follow this link http://burnslake.com/Burns%20Lake%20Centennial/Burns%20Lake%20Centennial.htm .

A bit about the songwriter and musician. Gordie came to Burns Lake several years ago as a stage performer, singing his own songs and doing some covers. He came to like the community, and a certain young nurse that he met, and decided to stay. He has worked at many things here, mostly entrepreneurial, including a film developing franchise. He settled finally on his current profession in real estate. He has raised his three children here and now enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.

He has written several songs over the years, this one he thankfully chose to share with us.

There were many friends and colleagues that assisted with putting this arrangement together. A few of the collaborators Clint, Thea and Martina are all incredibly knowledgeable in their fields offering lessons here in town. This song demonstrates the value of community and showcases some of the talented folks that reside here.

His associates are Clint Pelletier, Thea Pelletier, Nicole Hamp, Julia Hamp, Martina Zechendorf, and Alli Granger.
