Two victims located after Prince George boating incident

Prince George RCMP were called to report of a capsized jet boat on a segment of the Willow River, off Upper Fraser Road

On May 6, 2012 at 4:40 p.m., the Prince George RCMP were called to report of a capsized jet boat on a segment of the Willow River, off Upper Fraser Road, Northeast of the Prince George.

It was determined that boat was occupied by four people at the time of the incident, two males and two females. Both females were missing.

The two males were transported by the B.C. Ambulance to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. with non-life threatening injuries.

Emergency Management B.C. was contacted and Prince George Search and Rescue were deployed.  An RCMP fixed wing aircraft, a helicopter and many jet boats were a part of the search.

At approximately 8 p.m. a deceased female was located by the helicopter approximately 700 metres down river from where the incident took place.

The search continued until night fall. Personnel from a number of agencies including Prince George Search and Rescue, Shell Glen Volunteer Fire Department and Prince George Fire and Rescue, continued monitoring the river throughout the night.

This morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., the search of the river continued by boat.

At 8 a.m., members of the Swift Water Rescue Team from both Prince George and Nechako Valley Search and Rescue, continued the search in the immediate area where the incident occurred.

At 10 a.m. the Swift Water Team located the second female, deceased under a massive log jam.

The two females have been identified as Christy Schwing, 31, and Carolyn Simpson, 43.

Both resided in Prince George and the families of Schwing and Simpson have been notified.

The investigation is being lead by the B.C. Coroners Service.

"Despite the tragic outcome, it was clear that all possible efforts were made to locate both missing women," said Cpl. Craig Douglass, Prince George RCMP media liaison.
