Wanted man found in Burns Lake

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2011, the Burns Lake RCMP detachment conducted a traffic stop at the 100 block of Francois Lake Drive.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2011, the Burns Lake RCMP detachment conducted a traffic stop at the 100 block of Francois Lake Drive.

Police investigation determined that the registered owner of the motor vehicle has a warrant for arrest from Alberta. Upon conducting the traffic stop, police located and arrested the adult male, who was a passenger inside the motor vehicle on the warrant.

Subsequent to the arrest police entered into a criminal investigation whereby the adult male was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The adult male was taken to the Burns Lake RCMP detachment and released soon after to appear in court at a later date. The amount of marijuana seized was 43 grams.

Burns Lake RCMP continue to investigate.

On Sept. 22, 2011 at approximately 10:30 a.m. Burns Lake RCMP received a report of threats made against an employee at the Burns Lake Band office.

Police immediately responded to the Burns Lake Band office where investigation determined that earlier in the day an employee of the Burns Lake Band allegedly received verbal threats against him while at a residence on the reserve.

Given the initial nature of the threats, and as a precautionary measure, the Burns Lake Band office was secured and the Carrier Sekani Family Services building was evacuated.

The suspect in this investigation attended the RCMP detachment and provided a statement.

The Burns Lake Band office and the Carrier Sekani Family Services office reopened for business shortly thereafter.

Burns Lake RCMP continue to investigate this matter.
