Passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011, in the Prince George hospital during surgery. Duane had a strong christian faith and we are comforted in the assurance that he is with his Lord and Saviour in heaven. Duane was born February 16, 1940 in Kirkland, Washington to Ivan and Mabel Scheel, along with his younger sister, Mary Beth. He spent his younger years growing up in Washington. He married Alice Hill in 1963. They had two daughters, Shelly and Melanie before immigrating to Canada. They settled in Burns Lake, BC area and their son David, was born. Duane was self employed for most of his career; he had an engine repair and welding business for many years, along with a small mill for a while. He also built his own homes and was extremely talented with a multitude of building and engineering projects that he would find (or his family and friends would find) for him to do. After retiring, he moved his trap line near Watson Lake, Yukon and later to the Queen Charlotte Islands. The last five years were some of his most treasured as he was reunited with Alice, after almost 30 years apart. Together, they made a home in the Longworth area that they both loved. Duane and Alice enjoyed spending time together four-wheeling, snowmobiling, fi shing, camping, gardening and having picnics at the lake and being part of the Longworth community of friends. He loved animals and they loved him. Duane was softspoken and gentle with a funloving, witty sense of humour. He dearly treasured his children and grandchildren and had special relationship with each of them. Duane is survived by his wife, Alice; children Shelly (Scott) Stranski, Melanie (Kevin) Cazier, David (Moneca) Scheel, adopted daughter Michelle (Butch) Norton; sister, Mary DeBord; grandchildren, Rychael, Colter, Matt, Eric, Josh, Jenna, Brittany, Shelby, Natalie, Hannah, AJ and Justin; and greatgrandsons, Vincent and Ryker. He was preceded in death by his parents. Duane was much loved by his family, who will miss him until the day they all meet again with Christ in eternity. Duane will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered around his favourite spots in the Longworth area. A celebration of Duane’s life will be held next summer for his family and friends.
