In Loving Memory

LYLE GALBRAITH

Oct. 11, 1913 - April 30, 2006

Lyle was born on a small farm in High View, Saskatchewan, the oldest of five children, to Fred and Norma Galbraith. He later met Charlotte Havens in the same small town, and they were married on July 22, 1936. Together they farmed and dug water wells. Lyle saw a need to cut all the poplar trees on the farm and built a small sawmill.

While living in Saskatchewan they had three daughters, Shirley, who had died at six weeks, Joyce and Marjorie.

In 1943 Lyle was baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses at Kenosee Lake, Saskatchewan. Lyle loved talking to people, and most importantly, talking about his hope in the bible’s promise of living in a paradise under perfect conditions.

Lyle moved his young family to Perow, BC in 1945. He worked in a sawmill cutting much larger trees than the little populars on the farm. Lyle and Charlotte had a new addition to their family when their son Garry was born in 1948. Lyle had his own sawmill now and when he moved his family in 1951 to run a general store in Forestdale, the sawmill came too.

During these years Lyle worked on building the Kingdom Hall in Burns Lake and a home nearby. He spent his leisure time on Babine Lake catching lake trout. Lyle enjoyed many outdoor activities but was most known for his love of building and creating. Lyle was not afraid of attempting any project whether it be a new type of carburetor or a catamaran. Having no fear of any tasks is a quality he passed on to many of his grandchildren.

In 1981 Lyle and Charlotte moved to Salmon Arm along with their daughter, son and some of their grandchildren. Lyle was loved everywhere he went for his stories, his laugh and his generosity. Lyle is lovingly remembered by his sisters Edna (Ted) Mills and Margaret Sauve, daughters Joyce Westgarde and Marjorie (Norman) Byman, son Garry (Barbara) Galbraith, eight grandchildren Deanna (Harvey) Bridal, Rick (Lorelei) Byman, Sandra (Matthew) Ginn, Kenneth (Melanie) Westgarde, Leslie (Charlene) Westgarde, Sheridan (Danilva) Westgarde, Gregory (Rochelle) Westgarde and Brian (Tara) Westgarde. Lyle is also remembered by 14 great grandchildren, many relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Salmon Arm, BC on Saturday, May 6.
