In Loving Memory ~
"What mattered most was the life lived between the dashes"
"Your life is your message" NF

Nathan lived a very full 81 years packed with everything he could possibly fit in. It was joked about that he lived 10 lives in one. He was a big kid at heart making the most amazing fun and adventurous father and grandfather.
He was well known for his infectious smile his soft heart and great energy. Every experience was lived to the fullest degree. From sailing, playing football, hockey and always diving into his creative side in theatre and writing he went all in on every experience in front of him.
Born in Stockton Cali and raised in St Paul Minnesota to attending military school and then Graduating from Harvard University studying Psychology and Social Sciences.
In between deciding to travel to Albertschweitzer College in Switzerland where he met Elly Oct 2, 1961, the love of his life and his partner through 60 years of adventures.
From skiing the Swiss Alps, living out of a Volkswagen bug to serving in the Peace Corps in Venezuela instead of going off to war, planning and building a beautiful home in Spain , traveling with the gypsies, riding across the Americas on horseback for 4 1/2 years, settling on the beautiful farm above Uncha lake taking on the pioneering lifestyle of becoming a farmer and living with as few a foot prints as possible.
Nathan went on to Ketchikan Alaska to work on a fishing boat to raise money for their new homestead. Building his family log home from logs and locally sourced materials. Raising 3 daughters who were the dearest and greatest accomplishments, horse logging, opening a harness making shop, starting and running the well-known Bridge the Gap program, writing/co-authoring/publishing 3 books- Riding into the Wind and Taking on the Bully & Desert Diaries, facilitating summer riding camps, and mentoring many.
He was known as the animal whisperer and he touched the lives of so many all around the world encouraging everyone to live their dreams and always on believe that "you can". Every time life threw a curve ball his way he would build another building as his way of working through the tough times and also knowing he would one day leave his legacy behind for his family. "Carpe Diem" seize the day.
The most beautiful outpouring of stories and support and love for all of us during this time has been one of the most amazing gifts we could ever receive. We are so grateful for the beautiful souls in our lives that knew Nathan from near and far.
