Thora was born in Cornwall, England, and came to Canada in 1991 after meeting and marrying Norman. In 1992, three months into a two-week holiday at Takysie Lake, they swapped their fifth wheel for a permanent property in Danskin where they enjoyed the happiest moments of their lives.

They loved exploring Southside and meeting people. They would often be seen hauling their fifth wheel with their boat, just in case a day's outing became three or four! And they loved fishing, and weren't bothered if they didn't catch any.

While Norm was happy to talk (and talk) to everyone, Thora was more reserved but soon found her niche as President of the Southside fire volunteers (SVFD). Beside the public face of Poker Rides and other fundraising events, she quietly negotiated at local, provincial and national level to get better emergency resources on Southside, both fire and ambulance.

Moving to Hermitage Manor in 2014, Thora passed away peacefully at Burns Lake Hospital. At a private family memorial, she was reunited with Norman and their beloved black Labrador, Daisy.

However, her son from England would be delighted to hear from local friends with personal recollections & anecdotes: please send to Graham Oxenham, 68 Stowmarket Road, Needham Market, Suffolk IP6 8DX, England. Any "in memoriam" donations, please, to SVFD.
