Cheslatta Carrier Nation not associated with abused animals

Editor:

We dealt with news agencies all day on March 16 trying to clarify that “Cheslatta” is an area and is not our nation. This horrific story [about animals seized from the Southside] has caused a lot of grief for our members, as they were getting calls asking which Cheslatta Carrier Nation members were abusing animals.

This story is not associated with the Cheslatta Carrier Nation. In fact, no Cheslatta members even live in the ‘community’ of Cheslatta, which is a rural area south of Takysie Lake. For your information, there are many community areas on the Southside, including Southbank, Danskin, Uncha, Grassy Plains, Tatalrose, Cheslatta, Ootsa Lake, Wistaria, East Ootsa and Marilla.

Thank you for your time and we appreciate the work done by the various agencies to rescue these neglected animals. May they all find safe and loving homes.

Sincerely,

Chief Corrina Leween
