Everyone please vote

I hope the local community really gets behind the Burns Lake Rotary Club’s submission to the 2011 Aviva Community Fund competition.

I hope the local community really gets behind the Burns Lake Rotary Club’s submission to the 2011 Aviva Community Fund competition.

If we all work together, we can have a brand new multi purpose outdoor arena worth up to $150,000 that will be built absolutely free of charge, and all it takes is logging on to the Aviva Insurance website and voting for the Burns Lake project each round.

It really couldn’t be easier.

Even better still, is that to get the project through to the next round only an estimated 5,000 votes is needed.

You may be sitting there thinking that this sounds like a lot of votes, but it really isn’t.

Calculated out, each person that signs up on the website to vote is allocated 15 votes each round.

Do the math, if just 334 people sign up today, each with 15 votes allocated in round two, the project moves forward.

What could be easier?

We are a community of more than 3,000 people, 10,000 if you include the surrounding area. If just 3,000 people sign up from the 10,000 or so residents and use their 15 votes each round, the project will have 45,000 votes.

Why stop there? Pass the message on to family and friends and ask them to help out too. Even if they don’t live in Burns Lake they can still vote for the project and better still it takes less than five minutes to cast a vote.

So let’s do this. Let’s put Burns Lake on the map and show other competing communities and the competition’s judging panel how we rally behind our town, and move this worthy project forward to the semi finals.

Not only would the multi purpose outdoor arena spruce up the Dick Schritt Ball Park and add an additional point of interest to downtown Burns Lake, but it would provide a space that can be used year round for a variety of activities.

Skating, hockey, lacrosse, basketball .... a positive change for local youth to keep them off the streets and out of trouble.

It is a chance to have another sporting facility for use in the local area and a facility that will be free of charge to use.

As it sits now, the Dick Schritt Ball Park is a wide open expanse, used for nothing  at all and really of little community value, but all that can change with a few votes from the community.

It sure would be nice to see the property in use year round.

Also, I wanted to say hats off to the  Burns Lake Rotary Club, who have volunteered their time to develop and submit this idea on behalf of the community.

With the tireless work of volunteers, Burns Lake is moving forward in leaps and bounds.

So let’s honour the hard work the members of the Burns Lake Rotary Club have put into the project by signing up at www.avivacommunityfund.org.

All you have to do is cast your vote everyday for the multi purpose outdoor arena project.

The project has made it through the first round, so let’s push it through to the semi finals.

We can do it.
