Your article about the proposed Gateway Pipeline references a dated and error-laden Greenpeace U.S.A. statement claiming that "Dr. Moore often misrepresents himself as an environmental expert or an environmentalist while offering anti-environmental opinions on a wide range of issues" ("Burns Lake discussed at Enbridge CAB meeting," July 20 issue).

I have an honours BSc in forest biology (UBC), a PhD in ecology (UBC), an honorary Doctorate in Science (North Carolina State), and 40 years in the international environmental field.
I am a Greenpeace co-founder, was president of Greenpeace Canada for nine years and a director of Greenpeace International for seven years.
I was the leader of the 1977, 1978, and 1979 campaigns to save the whales in the Pacific. I was the leader of the 1978 and 1981 seal campaigns on the east coast of Canada.
I also led campaigns against trophy hunting, the capture of orca whales, and nuclear weapons-carrying warships, among others.
No other member of the original voyage stayed with Greenpeace nearly as long as I did.
Since leaving Greenpeace in 1986 I have spent over 20 years as an environmental consultant, working at the highest level around the world with our firm, Greenspirit Strategies Ltd.
If I am not qualified to call myself an environmental expert and an environmentalist, then I don't know who is.
Contrary to the Greenpeace claim that my message is "anti-environmental," I have worked to develop an environmental policy platform based on science, logic, and the recognition that nearly seven billion people need to survive and prosper, every day of the year.
Much of the environmental movement has lost its way, favouring political correctness over factual accuracy, stooping to scare tactics to garner support.
Many campaigns now waged in the name of the environment, including those against energy, would result in increased harm to both the environment and human welfare if they were to succeed.
