Most of us in Burns Lake and the regional district listen to radio or watch TV.

We don’t think much about how we get our programming. It may be a surprise to some residents that those of us not connected to cable or satellite receive radio and television communication via Boer Mountain and or Verdun Mountain. Both these mountains have radio and TV transmitters operated by the Burns Lake and District Rebroadcasting Society. Without this service many people in our community, particularly those that live outside of the village of Burns Lake, would have extremely limited, if no radio and television programming.

Since 1977 the Burns Lake and District Rebroadcasting Society has operated as a small group of dedicated volunteers to ensure that residents get this service. The society is a non-profit organization with operating funds provided from the regional district. In order to stay relevant, up to date, and aware of the channels and stations that the public would like to see and hear, the society needs the input of local residents.

We invite all those interested in learning more about this service, expressing an opinion for change and improvement, becoming a member or running for office, to attend the meeting on June 18, 2014. It will take place at 7 p.m. at the Francois Lake Elementary School. After the meeting there will be a short planning meeting and then an opportunity to socialize and eat cake. Please come and join us.

Chairperson, Burns Lake and District Rebroadcasting Society
