Missing the North

The people of Burns Lake gave us so much during our most memorable four years. It is over eight months since we left, but the experience is still with us.

We remember the warm welcome, the inclusiveness, helpful friends, pot lucks, our church at Grassy Plains, Rotary Tweedsmuir Treks, soap berry ice cream, paddling canoes, mountain bike trails, horse riding, skiing at Omineca Ski Club, skating  under massive moons and brilliant skies, fabulous fishing, wilderness and wildlife, wolves howling and loons calling.

We learnt that people of the North are strong, resilient and care for one another. True to mayor Bernice Magee's words, "We're tough up here in the North."

As chief administrative officer for the village, I enjoyed being part of a team of industrious and community minded staff and council.

It was rewarding to embark on significant projects and to see these come to fruition to enhance the community.

The community inspired Pine Ash Pottery, a product reflecting the landscape of the North.

We hope the Lakes District will continue to thrive and prosper, enjoy the unique playground that is yours and a lifestyle woven with the fabric of friendship and tenacity.

We miss you, but we didn't leave the planet, you can find us in Revelstoke and we welcome your visit.

God bless you, people of the North.
