Refrain from violence in response to beating

My family is asking community members to refrain from any type of violence in response to the beating of Chelsey Whitford.

Editor:

My family is asking community members to refrain from any type of violence in response to the beating of Chelsey Whitford.

There has been enough hurt and violence in our communities, and while tragic, this is an opportunity to make a collective choice to stop violence.

We are not violent people, we don't want more violence, we want peace, love and prayers for our daughter.

My prayers also go out to the mother and family of the accused, who is currently being held in jail.

Chelsea spoke quietly, while recovering in hospital, but with great strength, and wanted to thank everyone for their many prayers, support and love.

She stated, "I just want to thank everyone for all their help, getting my brother and family here to be with me, for supporting my mom and sister with a place to stay, and love and prayers. I want people to know what happened, and I don't want other girls to look like me… to be hurt."

This is an opportunity for all of us to collectively come together, to address the underlying causes of violence, and support each other. It is only through this spirit that try headline can occur.

Sincerely,

Janet Whitford
