Open letter to the mayor and council of Burns Lake

Re: Sign at the Green Grocers store.

It has come to my attention that the recently erected sign (Wild salmon etc.) at the Green Grocers store has been deemed offensive and efforts are underway by the Village of Burns Lake to have it removed. I am writing to question this decision and to challenge the use of the description offensive.

This sign presents a belief of many residents of Burns Lake and its surrounding communities. I am one of those people. We too have a voice and should receive support for an opinion that is held by a number of your constituents. We too are concerned about the future of our town and the people living there.

Apart from the content of this sign, the appearance is eye-catching and fits beautifully into the surroundings. Its bright and colourful look and the paint colour behind actually complement the recent downtown improvements and gives Burns Lake an interesting and dynamic feel. So what if it is controversial? Are we not a community that supports point of view in your determination regarding this sign.

Respectfully,

Frank Lehmann
