Re: Lakes District News issue dated Feb. 26, 2014. Regional District to consider pot proposal.

This article raises many questions that require answers. I believe that a meeting should be held in the Topley Community Hall with the regional district, health Canada and the participants in this endeavor all present to explain how this enterprise will affect the residents of our community.

Electoral area G (Houston rural) director Rob Newell said (according to the article) "There is a great deal of support for the Topley proposal." I have asked many residents and they had not been consulted, we can not come up with a meeting held regarding this. This proposal affects the whole community and everyone should be consulted.

We had a meeting chaired by Community Futures representatives and Rob Newell regarding the possible use of the Topley school after its closure. This was advertised and well attended by the community. Ideas were exchanged and it was unanimously agreed the best use would be to turn it into a seniors care facility.

A seniors care facility could be used by residents from Topley, Houston, Granisle, Burns Lake and Smithers. All communities within driving distance for friends and relatives. It would also provide jobs. A committee was formed to look into getting this proposal off the ground. The committee has been working on this proposal but it is a slow process.

Let's get together and find a fitting solution as there are members of the community who started school on theses grounds and would like to end their days in their own community.

We know nothing about this type of business and I believe that we should be informed so that we can make a decision regarding whether we want it in our community.

Yours truly,

Pauline Watson

Editor’s note: There will be a meeting March 17, 2014 at the Topley Community Hall. Everyone welcome.
