What about earthquakes?

Editor: Pertaining to the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline.

Pertaining to the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline, it is said that pipelines are corrosion proof, but  are they able to withstand earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, washouts, forest fires and avalanches?

There is constant earthquakes around the Queen Charlotte Islands,  a dozen volcanoes around Kitimat and two large active fault lines 2,000 kilometres long going North to South.

When we get the big earthquake it will have effects all over B.C., not just on the coast, some causing volcanic eruptions.

Even without large disasters, there is the disturbance of people, fish and wildlife habitats, waterways and the landscape caused by helicopters and heavy equipment, also tankers.

We are better off counting on jobs in the mining industry and forestry than on a pipeline. How much help will we get from China and the pipeline companies in the event of a disaster?

There are things money cannot buy.

To find out more go to:www.earthquakescanada.nrcan.gc.ca or on Google type in volcanic history of the Northern cordilleran volcanic province, where you will find a map of the active faults and the volcanos in Northern B.C.

We have the right to decide what happens in B.C.
