Why is council building another gym?

I am writing in regards to the continued decision by the council of Burns Lake to build another gym in the town.  Not only is there a large and varied gym in 'Lakes Fitness Center' but a gym privately owned on Nourse  Subdivision and one in the Lakes District Secondary School.   So this decision is a bit like reinventing the wheel at the expense of current gyms.

Personally I would love to see more recreation for folks that can be utilized when the weather does not permit one to go outside easily, so a squash or handball court would make far more sense than another gym.  Hockey, figure skating and on a limited level cross country skiing are some awesome recreation we have here in the lakes district, however for variety would not a squash/handball court be far more useful and possibly used than another gym?

It just seems unfair for the town of Burns Lake to go into competition with its tax paying businesses and town folk in an enterprise that may end up being supported by tax payers in the future if it is not self sufficient.  Perhaps council should ask the current gym owners for feedback on their membership, income and expenses.  That would make sense to me.
