The Lakes Literacy’s concept of holding storywalks has continued to remain popular throughout Burns Lake, despite cold weather and snow. Meredith Alec was spotted at the latest storywalk set up at the Lakes District Secondary School track, enjoying the new story. The concept that was brought to the village by former Lakes Literacy coordinator Jennifer Petersen has been continued with additional stories by the newest coordinator Ellie Jones. Burns Lake’s BonHomme contest winners

In recognition of Winter Carnival Week the French Immersion PAC, with the help of Burns Lake & Chamber of Commerce and Lakes District News had held a “find BonHomme” contest. The community members were encouraged to find the poster of the French snowman BonHomme at various local businesses. On Feb. 16, the Canadian Parents for French (CPF) PAC gave winter festivities a refreshing twist due to COVID-19 restrictions. The PAC arranged for the Burns Lake Fire department’s fire truck to bring Winter Carnival’s Bonhomme de Neige and Newsie, the Lakes District News mascot, to William Konkin Elementary School (WKE) to kick off the Winter Carnival.
